Evangelized Apple’s Internet component technologies to third-party software engineering

vendors through sample code, hands on laboratories, briefings, conference presentations,

magazine articles, and coding kitchens. Shipped three commercial-quality IETF-protocol

tools as official sample code. Transfered in August 1996 to Munich, Germany, as Apple’s only

European Compatibility Engineer, responsible for debugging Apple and third-party products

to ensure seamless interoperability between Apple’s new software and hardware releases

and those of its strategic partners. Coded for Mac OS, OpenStep, and Rhapsody using C++,

IBM SOM, ObjectiveC, PowerPlant, and Java. One part-time direct report.

Lead Engineer, Novell; September 1994 to September 1995

After WordPerfect’s merger with Novell, promoted to engineering lead over the vector and

bitmap drawing component teams. Managed architecture, design, scheduling,

implementation, and quality reviews. Coded daily for Mac OS, Windows 95/NT, and various

Unix flavors using C, C++, and IBM SOM. Verified and fixed builds of these components.

Coordinated interaction with testing groups. Evaluated team member performance and

salary increases. Provided press briefings and demonstrations for internal groups and

strategic partners. Seven direct-reports.

Senior Developer, WordPerfect; March 1993 to September 1994

Developed cross platform, object-oriented vector drawing module for shipment in future

WordPerfect products. Coded for Mac OS, Windows 95/NT, and various Unix flavors using

C, C++, and IBM SOM. Shipped drawing features in four word-processing products and one

clip-art editor. Designed and implemented prototypes for cross-platform OpenDoc part

editors. Taught internal training on component development. No direct-reports.
